An ejector pump exists to pump wastewater or sewage “up” to the street level sewer. You may have a gray water system that is only meant for laundry wastewater or if you have a basement bathroom you may have a full-fledge sewage pit with an ejector “grinder” pump. If you are installing a new bathroom in a basement that was not fully roughed-in for a bathroom, sometimes it is necessary to convert a graywater pit to a deeper ejector pit.

Just because the call it a “grinder” pump does not mean it can’t clog! Wipes, diapers, feminine hygiene products and other such items can cause problems.
An ejector pump failure is bad news. In some cases it is even desirable to put a back-up ejector pump in place.
